Cutting into a beautiful fabric

My Elusive Plaid Dress is almost finished. It needs to be shortened to its desired length and hemmed. It scares me to do it, just as it scared me to cut into it the first time. I’ve figured out why.

If I have a beautiful fabric I’ll always have a beautiful fabric. If I cut into it I could have a beautiful garment, but I can also have a botched beautiful fabric, a beautiful fabric that is beyond rescue.

The same thing now. The long, unhemmed dress hanging upstairs has the potential of becoming a beautiful dress. If I cut it too short or crooked than I’ve ruined what could have been gorgeous.

Cutting is so definitive. If you screw up than the whole project is ruined. That’s why I’m afraid of beautiful fabrics.
