‘Tis a Sad Day

Some time ago, as I was washing my Flouncing Sleeves Top it came to close to the washer’s edge and got a lot of stains on it. Yes, it got dirtier by being in the wash. Since then I’ve tried to wash it again, using stain remover and other tricks, but those stains remain.

Perhaps I haven’t tried every trick in the book, but I think it’s time to let the top go. Other clothes which have had the same problem have had their stains removed, but for this one they are really set. The top has been washed several times, which has perhaps set the stains even more, without result.

The top is by no means perfect in construction or technically, but it is easy to wear and match and has helped me through several me-made months. Plus it was one of the first knit tops I made so it holds a special place in my heart. This is hard, should I keep it just because of that? Make a new one? Or does anyone have any magic stain remover tips?

Me-Made-May days 14-17

What’s me-made in today’s outfit?
The Leaf skirt.
Where was it worn?

To work. We had people visiting from one of our plants.
How often is it worn and why?

I love this skirt! This is the second wear, only because it’s brand new. I really need to take it in at the waist, it’ll drive me crazy otherwise.

What’s me-made in today’s outfit?
Green blouse and the 3-year pants. The necklace is made by my cousin.
Where was it worn?

Regular day of work
How often is it worn and why?

The blouse gets its second wear and will probably be worn quite a bit. The pants were made 3 years ago, ended up too long and I didn’t like the high waist. Yesterday I found them in my stash (I keep on forgetting them) and shortened them and realised they didn’t look so bad after all. It’s a good thing they’re stretchy though as my fly job is horrible.
(The necklace isn’t worn that often, I’m not a big fan of pearls. But she did make it for me, so I might give it some wear)

What’s me-made in today’s outfit?
Lessons Learnt Skirt and Flouncing Sleeves top
Where was it worn?
Regular day of work
How often is it worn and why?
The skirt is sewn based on the lessons I learnt during last year’s Me-Made-June, so it’s no wonder it gets a lot of wear – it was what my wardrobe needed! The top is also one of those easy to wear tops.

What’s me-made in today’s outfit?
Floral and Coral Dress. The kiddo is me-made too.
Where was it worn?
Annual family visit to the horse race track (look closely and you can spot the horses over my right shoulder, on the inner track).
How often is it worn and why?
I like this dress and it gets a few wears each summer, mostly for parties and such. I would like to make it in a fancy fabric, as with many dresses, but for now this is perfectly fine.
Were there any winnings at the race track?
Not a lot. I gambled for about 100 SEK and won 13 SEK on a 10 SEK bet. As the waitress said, let’s consider it as paying for the event.

Me Made May Days 1-4

Day 1:

Whats me-made in today’s outfit?
Oldie, but goodie-top
Where was it worn?
To an outdoor museum (Kulturens Östarp)
How often is it usually worn and why?
To be honest, this top gets mostly worn during the me-made/self-stitched monthes. Too casual for work and for leisure I have many more interesting options.

Whats me-made in today’s outfit?
Flouncing Sleeves-top, Exposed Zipper-skirt, Curtain purse (ie. completely me-made outfit)
Where was it worn?
Work
How often is it usually worn and why?
The top sees pretty heavy rotation during spring/summer as it is easy to match. The skirt, not as much. I like it but there are some flaws I always see (and doubt anyone else does).

Whats me-made in today’s outfit?
Lessons learnt skirt, Green Burdastyle-blouse and Curtain purse
Where was it worn?
Work
How often is it usually worn and why?
First wear for both pieces. The skirt will probably be worn a lot, the blouse I’m not 100% satisfied with. I don’t know how to fix it, though.

Whats me-made in today’s outfit?
The Leaf skirt, the Moo Moo tunic
Where was it worn?
Work
How often is it usually worn and why?
The skirt is love! It’s a bit too big in the waist so I must take it in. The tunic saw its first wear today and I’m really not a tunic person. Perhaps I’ll tighten the underbust elastic.

Summary: 3 completely me-made outfits during the first week and 1 outfit with 1 garment.

Self Stitched September – Halfway there!

Day 11

Self- Stitched – Envy Dress

Our plans was to attend some friends’ one year old’s birthday party. I chose comfort and this jersey dress was perfect for sitting on the floor and running in the garden chasing our own little one year old.

Day 12

Self Stitched – Chocolate Pants, Top with flouncing Sleeves

This outfit was simple and also about trying neutrals. Neutrals are great in basic garments as they are easy to mix and match.

Day 13

Self Stitched – Exposed Zipper skirt

This skirt is a great transition piece, from spring to summer and from summer to autumn. So it was perfect!

Day 14

Self Stitched – Denim pencil Skirt

The Wednesday challenge of the week was to pose with water. I chose this fountain at work. It does something with the heating/cooling as opposed to just being an ugly fountain. As for my new skirt – love!

Day 15

Self Stitched – The Chocolate Pants, A new vintage shrug.

I had lovely plans for this day – to go to the fabric store and stock up. In stead I had to work late and came home at eight in the evening, long after any fabric store had closed.

Day 16

Self Stitched – A Green, wait Black dress

This dress hasn’t seen the light of day in ages. Last time it was in season I was breast feeding and the time before that I was pregnant. It really was like “say hello to an old friend”. While I like the dress it is in polyester so it’s a bit unnatural and always either too hot or cold. Perhaps I’ll make the perfect Celestina one day.

Guess what? More Me-Made-June!

I’m falling behind on everything. New projects, posting about me-made-June, posting about anything else. Anyhoo, here’s what I’ve been wearing.

Day 23
Wrap on Top bolero
RTW t-shirt and pants

This bolero is a good enough project, it’s not perfect but it works. Nothing more, nothing less.

Midsummer weekend
Oldie, but goody top
RTW pants
Trampoline

Over the weekend I was not very creative in dressing. This is what I wore the entire weekend. For Friday it was clean, on Saturday we did fondue and you don’t want to wear clean clothes for that and on Sunday you didn’t want to put on clean clothes. So one outfit for the entire weekend.

Day 26
Flouncing sleeves top
Exposed Zipper Skirt

A complete me-made outfit. This outfit made me realise that solid neutrals make good outfits and they’re easy to match. I see more neutrals and solids in my future.

Day 28
Midnight Sun skirt
Blouse – Banana Republic Outlet

A repeat skirt. Making this type of outfit as I did for the Midnight sun outfit and also my “Dress” is great as you get three looks; the skirt, the top and the dress. As I see this pic and as I saw myself in the bathroom mirror at work, this blouse would work even better with a belt. Perhaps next time I’ll wear it I won’t be sleep deprived.

Halfway into Me-Made-June

Day 10

Me-Made Sweater, Mother’s Day Sweater (not blogged)

The task of the week was to take a transportation picture so I took one in the car (not while driving). The me-made element is a very simple sweater over a GAP tank and jeans. Not the most inspiring outfit, but still good enough.

Day 11

Me-made dress, The Dissertation Party Dress

I was attending my cousin’s wedding and the dress code was semi-formal. At first I had planned on wearing a lovely RTW dress, but the day before the wedding I had a dream about this dress and decided to wear it instead. I’m glad I chose this dress, because not many opportunities arises to wear a dress like this. And imagine, my first sewing project in my sewing revival  was a silk dress with chiffon sleeves! Apparantly I was fearless back then.

Day 12

Me-made dress, Elusive Plaid dress (not yet blogged)

I chose this rather new maxi dress as my travel dress (we flew to the location of the wedding). It is so comfortable and I like the feeling of maxi dresses (even though this is my only one). What can I say, I love this dress!

Day 12

Me-made dress, The Envy dress (also un-blogged, I’m falling behind)

This dress is a simple jersey dress. The fit is not perfect, but I suspect that would be easily fixed. I bought a new backpack over the weekend and felt very school girl in it, so I took the picture at my old high school.

Day 14

Me-made top, Flouncing Sleeves top

Wearing the same pattern two days in a row, but two very different clothes. The dress from yesterday is from the same pattern. I made this top after the dress, so the fit is better on the top than the dress.

Day 15

Me-made blouse and skirt, Three-Year Blouse and Exposed Zipper skirt

I did a complete me-made outfit today. It’s an OK outfit, but there are many minor mistakes with both pieces that annoy me. One thing I do like is the lace detail around the neckline.

Halfway into me-made June I’m starting to learn what I’m missing, what I need to think of for future projects. It’s quite a learning experience!

Flouncing Sleeves Top

This next creation is taken out of BWoF 2009-01. It’s a simple top, I think, however the sleeves makes it interesting. It wasn’t very hard to do, which was good, since I’m using these simple tops to get comfortable working with jersey and knits. I used simple white cotton jersey, interfacing and threads. That’s it. It was quick to cut and sew, once the pattern was cut it took me 2 hours. Project summary Pattern: BWoF 2009-01-106B Difficulty: 2/5 (Burda’s rating – I agree) Alterations: None Fabric: Cotton jersey Notions: Interfacing Project rating: A quickie top, whipped up in one evening when I wanted something new to wear. Perfect everyday top!
